Who's a Fat Bastard - So many toll duckers

August 11, 2014

Let's get the stupid out of the way first. At 3:30 am I finished my blog. At 3:31 am, I erased the whole thing. So here I am at 8 in the morning trying to remember what I wrote. There was a lot of good stuff in there! When you add in Papa Squatch Dayscare this morning, I'm feeling a little challenged for time. I was leaving for Seattle at 1pm from my friend Dave's house in Langley. With his brother Eric we were going to the Blue Jays game.
My day started as usual with a cup of No Name instant coffee or two, then got right on my workout. I throw the party laundry into the washer. The first of two loads. And settle into my workout. I have the exercise part down pretty good now. It takes me about thirty-five minutes to complete or one wash cycle. I start with 500 Four Stair Stretches.
Such Focus
I then do 150 One Stair Steps. I do twenty-five steps in a set three sets each leg. It's the hardest exercise I do.
Stepping my way to healthy.
I then finish off with 120 Belly Crunches. Twelve reps, ten sets. It seems to be getting easier.
I may have found the camera angle!
After I flipped the laundry and had a quick shower, I had some running around to do. Lisa had left a list on the counter that I thought was a shopping list. It was just a list, list. I did the shop anyway. From the supermarket I went to the bank to get some Yankee dollars for the trip, dropped off some stamps with Momma Lee and was back putting the unordered groceries away by 12:20. Langley here I come.
Going out to Langley, I take the Port Mann toll bridge. I would normally take the Pattullo bridge from New West to avoid the $3 toll but I was short on time. There are so many toll duckers using the Pattullo it can be very slow. I got to Dave's at about 1:15 we shared a few pleasantries and headed off to collect Eric. With Eric in hand we went back to Dave's because he is old, senile and forgot his phone. We headed out to the border crossing on 264th Street, thinking it would be quicker than the Pacific Crossing. The line was backed up to 8th Avenue. Dave did a U turn and twenty minutes later we were at the intersection of 0 Avenue and the border crossing. There was a line stretching back as far as we could see. We were only a couple of hundred yards from customs but we would need someone to let us cut in. Some guy fell asleep at the switch, and Dave was in the border lineup like Elvis on a Squirrel! Fifteen minutes later we were cruising down I five headed to a ball game. We stopped for gas and went through the drive through at McDonalds. I had a McChicken and a McDouble. I hadn't eaten and we were hooking up with our friend Rex, who lives in Seattle and gets the tickets for us, at 5:30. It was just after 3:00. I have never seen Interstate five so busy, so far north. The traffic was solid all the way from the border. It's 110 miles from the border to Seattle. It was over 90 degrees and with close to 900 lbs of Canadian beef crammed into Dave's Hyundai SUV,  I was just praying the Air conditioning holds up. I had visions of three slabs of pork sitting in the sun!
Dave dropped Eric and I at the Pyramid Brewing Company Beer garden at 5:30 and went to park the car in the Safeco parkade.
Pyramid Brewing Company Beer Garden

We found Rex with no problem and caught up while we waited for Dave. Pyramid only sells craft beers. I don't like craft beers, neither does Eric. When Dave got back from parking, $35! But after the game, you make a right turn out of the garage and you're on I five. Dave had a beer and Rex had another. I had two fish taco's that were very good. They were cod and just the right spicy.
From the beer garden we walked down a couple of blocks to the Hawks Nest, it's a tavern we like near the stadiums. It's only open on game days. The boys had chili fries and chicken wings and I ordered a bucket of Rainier's. Five for fifteen dollars. It used to be brewed in Seattle and we all had stories about doing the brewery tour in the 80's. Twenty minute tour, then two hours in the tasting room.  Budweiser bought them a few years ago and closed the brewery. Now the brewery has been converted to condos. Progress!
There were a ton of Blue Jay jerseys all over the place downtown. We made our way to the stadium just as the game started. In all the years we have been going down to the games, I don't think we have ever been there for the anthems. Today was no exception. We walked in between the first and second innings. I bought a big bag of peanuts. I used to always buy the Family Pack.  I don't need the Crackerjacks and Licorice. We were up so high we needed oxygen to breathe! Hey, the tickets were $10 and the view was excellent. If a little distant.
The view from Outer Space...Our seats
They said there was 42,000 people there for the game. That's what you get when two contenders play each other. I'd say the crowd was split 50/50.
Asian Gangs?

Except for the section full of Asian Teenagers. I don't know who they were supporting but, they were color coded! It was a horrible game from a Jays fan point of view.
Eric and Dave...Jays fans

Mariner fans on the other hand were quite pleased.
Rex... a Mariners fan...you would think he'd look happier!
Me, I cheer for both but my heart was with the Jays!
Oh Well
11 - 1 the Jays lost. I almost said "we lost" but I had nothing to do with it. It was a beautiful night and there was certainly a lot of offence. Around the sixth inning there was a roll of thunder and lightning could be seen through the roof. They closed the roof and we never even noticed. Be Alert...we need more Lerts.
After the game we make our way to the car and we are on
I Five in minutes. Dave, the Road Warrior drives both ways every time we go down for a game. Eric sleeps most of the way home and I keep Dave company.  That happens every time too. We stopped for gas and a coffee near Bellingham and cruised through the border no problem. "Are you bringing anything back with you?" the border guard asked "Just a belly full of fish tacos and disappointment!"
I drive home from Langley and see that Lisa is up at 3:30 am. It's already 12:30 and I have Papa Squatch Dayscare at 8:00.  So I start the blog. I write and putter around. Lisa left a note asking me to water the indoor plants. I watered as I pondered the days events. I was three quarters of the way done with the blog and it was 2:30, that's when I erased all my work.
It's 11:30 and I am just finishing the replacement blog. I have a ton of stuff to do.

That's all I got
Till next time
Peace Out Y'all
