W. T. F. |
I was up with the alarm at 8 o'clock all ready for Papa Squatch Dayscare. I got dressed for the day, made myself a cup of Joe
and stared out the window at the trees that were being blown around like crazy. It was about 8:45 when I realized they weren't coming. Jen told me last night that they weren't. I just forgot
I had another cup of Joe and then went down to theGreen Room and did a workout. I only did the floor exercises today
Belly Crunches, side lifts, front lifts and no stairs stretches. I came upstairs and made myself breakfast.
Ham N' Eggs |
I seem to have slipped off the three meals a day plan and am working on two. I'm trying to get back on track.
Bro Steve amongst the Christmas Crap |
Bro Steve was coming over before we go to Christmas tea at Mama Lee's. This time of year is very hard on Mama Lee.
Mama Lee in Christmas Mode |
She has a big heart and a generous soul and all the charities are working hard to guilt people into giving at this time of year. She has given her whole life. She needs the little money she has for her own quality of life. The last year Mama Lee lived with us, she would get ten pieces of mail, all asking for money every day.
Bro Steve and I talked about ways to get her to do her exercise without her actually doing her exercises. I don't know that I can be there twice a day for twenty minutes at a time. She'll do her exercises if I do them with her, but it seems to be the only way she's going to do them.
Bro Steve hung out for about half an hour and then headed over to write Christmas cards for Mama Lee before the Christmas tea began. I practiced on my lap steel for the first time in a week. I am rapidly approaching music with it.
I had a shower and got dressed for Christmas tea. I put on a shirt with a collar and a sports coat, one that I have not fit into for several years.
My "skinny" sports coat |
I left the Rat dogs at home. Too many people will be there for them to be under foot. There was a good turnout though I don't understand why they always do these things on a weekday. Neither can Bro Steve!
I'm sure it has something to do with staff levels. It's sad to see some of the old folks sitting by themselves.
Merry Christmas? |
Staring into space. No family there for them. Breaks your heart. Bro Steve, Peter and myself were there for Mama Lee.
Peter, Steve Myself and Mama Lee |
They had a guy there playing the old time songs and Christmas carols. He was quite good.
Lord Tunderin B'y |
A Newfie with an accent thick as plum pudding. His accent disappeared when he sang.
There were large cheese and fruit trays and about 40 different kinds of desserts! I had a slice of fruit cake and a coffee.
None of the food groups |
Coffee, Tea, Hyperglycemic shock? |
I know about all the fruit cake jokes. I just don't get it! I have always loved fruit cake. The dark kind with raisins and currents and dried fruit and weighs a ton. My mom used to make a christmas pudding that was like a fruitcake. I remember my Mom putting all the ingredients into a pillow case and then letting it boil on the stove all day. The whole house would smell of brown sugar and molasses. When it came out of the pillow case it was shiny on the outside from the suet in the pudding. It was good. Then my Mom would make a pot of Bird's Custard that was poured over top when it was served. That's funny. I haven't thought of that in years.
There were lot's of smiles and everyone was having a good time. A few of the residents that are still mobile, got up and danced with the Care Aids.
Reindeer loose, reindeer loose! |
It was all over by 3 o'clock. Looking around the room there were a half dozen or so residents who had already fallen asleep.
I had errands to do for the lovely Lisa so I went about my business. London Drugs, the bank and Cheap Thrills. I got the things I needed to get done before 4 o'clock when the Canucks game came on. They were doing a ceremony to honour Jean Beliveau who passed away last week. I figured it would be a late start. I don't know if I should feel guilty or not but I watched the Raptors game instead of the Jean Beliveau tribute. He was a great player in his time and from everything I read, a wonderful human being. He got 83 years and was relatively healthy throughout his life. I just spent the afternoon at a seniors center. We should all be as lucky as Jean Beliveau.
Lisa got home just after 5 o'clock and was in bed by 6 o'clock. I channel jump back and forth between the Raptors and the Canucks.
They both lost.
Desperate for entertainment I watched Bad Teacher starring Cameron Diaz. Not the best movie but not the worst either. The fifty year old Diaz playing a twenty something Hottie was a bit of a stretch. I don't know what she did to her lips but she looked like someone had glued Hotdogs to her face! I crawled into bed around midnight with hotdogs dancing in my mind. I have to be downtown in the morning and my brain is sore.
That's all I've got
Till next time
Peace out y'all
