Who's a Fat Bastard - Chinese Travel Brouchures

December 5, 2014
December in Vancouver
Today was one of those days where I couldn't quite get my feet underneath me. I had Papa Squatch Dayscare going on as well as a mission of mercy and another of Doom! Sharon dropped Christo off at 8:30 and took Bella across the street to the Christmas Fair at her school. The lovely Lisa was already there hoping to poach an ornament or two. Everything was going off without a hitch. Well from my end anyway. The lovely Lisa was not allowed to purchase any Christmas do dads at the Christmas Fair. It's about the kids coming in and buying gifts for their siblings and parents and stuff like that. All the stuff was donated and the kids love buying something with their own money. The adults weren't allowed to buy anything until 3:00 in the afternoon. Sadly the lovely Lisa left the Christmas Fair, staring longingly at three tables full of Christmas Crap!
Christo needed to be dropped off for preschool at 9:30 and we needed to be down at St Paul's hospital to pick up Alida at 10 ish.
She had a procedure that requires anaesthetic and they won't let her drive or even leave the clinic on her own.
Lisa came back, we had a cup of drippy Joe, packed up Christo and took him to preschool.
It always rains here, go away!
Going into town at 9:30 in the morning is a breeze. No traffic and we made very good time. The lovely Lisa waited in the car at St Paul's while I went in to find a Alida. I followed the directions to the clinic where there was a sign that said reception. The door was locked and no one was there. All the chairs in the hallway outside the reception were full. An old guy sitting there said, "I've been waiting for an hour." I walked over to the doors to the clinic and it had a sign that said Authorised Personnel Only. It looked very important. So I authorised myself to go in and get her. I was hoping she would be all dopey and I could trick her into buying me a Starbucks. But she was just regular Alida dopey!
Alida and Elvis
We had to go pick up her car which was at her brothers at 43rd and Cambie.  Lucky for us the lovely Teamster Lisa knew a short cut. After a mere Twenty minutes of wandering through one way streets and construction zones we finally made our way to the Cambie Street Bridge on ramp. Much easier than crossing the Burrard Street Bridge. Seeing we were on Burrard and pointing the right way. The lovely Teamster Lisa loves her shortcuts! I drop them off at Alida s car.
Elvis, Nutmeg and myself head back to pick up Christo at preschool.  Without taking any imaginary shortcuts, I made it back  to Coquitlam in twenty five minutes.
I drop the dogs off at the house and then went to pick up Christo  for a dentist appointment he had at 12:30. He took an elbow in the mouth in a bouncy castle at a birthday party and cracked a tooth. I have to say it's wrong on so many levels to make Papa take the little guy to the dentist. Jen told me the night before that his dentist was at the Stuper Store Plaza. We live at the top of Blue Mountain. We have a Stuper Store at the bottom of the hill in Coquitlam Center and we have a Stuper Store at the bottom of the hill on Lougheed.  I went to the wrong one. Its now 12:20 and I'm on the exact opposite side of the mountain. That's okay, I know a shortcut! We roll into the dentist office only five minutes late. She told us to take a seat and the dentist would be with us shortly. We ended up sitting there for fifteen minutes. Really! I had to break several traffic laws to get there on time. For what?!!
Christo was sitting beside me, when  I looked over at him he was reading a magazine.
This is how a four year old reads
"What are you doing?" I asked
"Reading", he said.
"I didn't know you could read Chinese" I said, glancing at the Chinese Travel Brochure  he was perusing.
"Its not Chinese Papa, its pictures." he explained to me like he was talking to the village idiot.
Duh! It's pictures, Papa
The dentist came and took us to the chair. The look on Christo's face, it may as well have been the electric chair!  Sponge Bob Square Pants was playing on the big screen in front of him and even that couldn't hold  his attention!
The dental assistant told Christo that he needed to take an Xray and explained the procedure to him. When he had finished explaining it to Christo,  Christo very politely said "No thank you".
I told him you need to do this so that they can fix your tooth. It doesn't hurt at all. "Okay, Papa," he said with very little conviction. Then when he put the lead blanket on Christo and told me to go stand behind the wall. That bugged his little eyes out a bit.
While this was going on the dentist took me aside and said that he should pull that tooth. The dentist told me it could be two years before his adult tooth grew into the space in his face. I called Jen. This was not a Papa Squatch thing. It took him a year to get over our potty training wars! Thank God Jen knows this is a Mommy thing.
I brought him home intact and with a new toy from the dentist and made him grilled cheese for lunch. I had ham and cheese lettuce wraps, again, because I bought a big black forest ham, it was half price in the used meat section. It's best before date was December 9. It's a ham. It's been smoked, cured and genetically modified to last longer than a Twinkie. While we were waiting for Christian to come and get Christo we had a music lesson/ jam session with the Casio. I showed Christo where the C, F, G chords were and we made some music like noise.

Three chords man, that's all you need.
The Casio has over a hundred different beats and we were trying them all. I called out the chord changes and played the right hand while Christo played the left hand. After fifteen minutes he was getting pretty good on the timing. He was right into it. Dancing to the beat and changing chords. We looked up, and there was Christian standing in the doorway with a big smile on his face. They packed up and went to pick up Bella after school.
After they left I had some running around to do Mama Lee's brother Charlie had sent a couple of photos from the cruise that I was getting printed for her at London Drugs. They also sell my favourite pork rinds, which they were out of. I did however pick Mama Lee up a digital clock. The way her room is set up the clock that she has is behind her about 95% of the time. This will fix that issue.
I had some banking to do and then I stopped by for a visit with Mama Lee.

Mama Lee and Uncle Charlie
The lovely Lisa, Uncle Charlie and Mama Lee
She was very happy with the pictures from Uncle Charlie
and for the new clock. We went out into the big hall where there was quite a crowd. The New York Philharmonic was playing Christmas music on a DVD. I sat with Mama Lee for fifteen or twenty minutes listening to the music and talking about her
vocal exercises. Which she is not really keen on doing. She has a bit of a respiratory issue at the moment. It's being treated and she's going to be fine.
I went home and the lovely Lisa was so far ahead of the game, it was like a whole different game. While I was out doing my errands she had put the entire meal together. All I had to do was BBQ burgers and dogs.  Chef Boy R Lisa put together a couple of salads, she had cut up the tomatoes, onions and pickles for the burgers, baked potatoes were in the oven, a fruit platter and a cheese tray awaited our guests. It was card night at Casa Lisa.

I set up the poker table in the living room. I was taking my time
and watching the Raptors game. They lost to LeBron and the Cleveland Cavaliers. Chef Boy R Lisa was in full caterer mode. She likes to get everything set up in advance. I think that since I'm feeding them, the least they can do is get their own chair! Maybe that's why I'm not a caterer? The players/pigeons showed up around 5:30. I turned off the sound on the Raptors game and put on some music.  That's when a platter of various and assorted Samosas
that Chef Boy R Lisa had been heating in the oven arrived. They looked and smelled great but I didn't have any. Too many carbs
and I would eat about twenty of them. I started up the Barby and got cookin!
I'm practically sausage shaped myself these days!

The food was great.
Lisa's Baked potato with Brie...drool

My pile of vegitation! Oh Boy!
After the Raptors lost I put on Galaxy music and proceeded to kick butt on the first game of Screw Your Neighbour.
Waiting to be screwed
We then played a poker tournament that Alida won and the lovely Lisa finished second.
Ricky and Gord sharing a laugh.

We then finished off the evening with another game of Screw Your Neighbour that Alida won. She's staying with us tonight before going back to the Island and her cat Buddy tomorrow morning.
We tidied up and Alida and the lovely Lisa went to bed. I tried to write this blog but kept nodding off.
Its been a day and a half since I had any kidney stone moving pain and I suspect that I have now passed it. It feels better everyday and the pressure in my back is receding. Keeping my fingers crossed.

that's all I've got
till next time
peace out y'all
