Who's a Fat Bastard - Fuel for nightmares.

December 8, 2014

The view from my chair
The sound of an incoming text message got me out of bed at 9 o'clock this morning. It was Christian reminding me that I was going to be picking him up at the car dealership. He was dropping off his van for service at 10 o'clock. A good thing he did, because I had totally forgotten.  A quick cup of instant Joe and I was headed down to Port Moody. When I got there he was waiting out front with Bella. They went down to see the lights in Stanley Park last night. When they got home Bella had developed a fever so they decided to keep her home from school today. She looked alright to me . It seems to me when I was a kid, you pretty much had to have lost a limb or have visible carbuncles before you got to stay home from school. Just saying. The good news is she's fine today. She was in heaven when she got to be in the backseat with Nutmeg and Elvis. We came back up Thermal Drive that's the unbelievably steep road that Rick Hansen wheeled his chair up during the Man In Motion Tour. I couldn't walk/crawl up it! Christian had his doubts until we got to the sign.
Thermal Drive. How did he do it?
Today is Pearl Harbour Day. It is also my granddaughter Clarissa's birthday.
Clarissa
If you've been reading the blog through the summer you know that Clarissa was out here for two months from her home in Ontario. I'm pretty sure she doesn't read this, she's only ten. We want to wish her a Happy Birthday and let her know that Gramma Lisa and I love her very much, just in case she does.
Then I get to work on the new Christmas lights that I bought when I was swept up in the half price buying frenzy!
Weird angle
I was halfway through it when I realized I had ten minutes to get to Christo's preschool. Christo was waiting for me when I got there. It's the first time I've seen him since he had his tooth pulled.
In the truck he told me that the Dentist was mean and the Tooth Fairy gave him some money. He's pretty cute with that big hole in his smile.

Christo

We stop by and see Mama Lee, I had a four pack of knee highs for her. You know that in a care facility you get big time street cred when your grandkids come to see you during the week.

It was lunch time when we got there. Rat dog heaven! Elvis and Nutmeg were working the room hard. Nutmeg was on her back feet bouncing up and down and Elvis was spinning around in circles.
The old gals couldn't toss them tidbits fast enough! We visited with Mama Lee for about fifteen minutes, then I took Christopher back to his house. His dad had his lunch waiting for him. After a short visit so Bella could play with Nutmeg and show off Christo's tooth.
Bella with the tooth
Christo just wanted me to see his new costume  Batasaurus Rex!
What could I possibly say!
I went home and put up the last of the outdoor lights. I decorated the Holly Bush and the stairs. I like the ropes.
Welcome

Finished
I prepared the ribs that I had left out with soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, horseradish, salt and pepper. Massaged and marinated and then wrapped in tin foil with a cup of apple juice and put in the oven at 325 degrees. The sugar in the apple juice makes the skin crispy when you rack the ribs at the end.
I turned on the last half of the Raptors game while the ribs were cooking. The lovely Lisa had texted me with my ho ho ho warning.
When the lovely Lisa got home the ribs weren't ready. I took them out of the tin foil and put them on a rack to finish them in the oven for thirty minutes. Teamster/Chef Boy R Lisa had just finished a fourteen hour day and was bagged.
It's a big Birthday for Matty today he turned seven. The lovely Lisa wanted me to wait till she got home before I gave him his gift. We called Matty upstairs and I played Happy Birthday on the harmonica and the dogs refused to sing. I had practised it with them two minutes earlier and they were in great voice. Now all they wanted to do was jump on Matty!

The lovely Lisa hopped in the shower while I finished preparing dinner.

Okay, I took the cole slaw out of the fridge and sliced a couple of avocados. Unfortunately some of the ribs were still slightly underdone. The thinner and smaller ones were cooked perfectly. Some of the bigger ones were a little bit, shall we say, Raw! We ate two smaller ones apiece and I put the rest back in the oven. They will become twice baked ribs, my specialty. Especially when I screw up dinner!

Right after dinner the lovely Lisa went to bed, she has a 3:30 wake up call.
I tried to watch another horrendous Monday Night Football game. Green Bay - Atlanta?  I watched a documentary about World War One on the Knowledge Network instead. I thought the Germans would win this time! Then I watched a little bit of news, none of it good. I hardly ever watch the news before bed. It's like fuel for nightmares.
And then I wrote this blog.

That's all I've got
Till next time
Peace out y'all
