Who's a Fat Bastard - Quite kissable even without the sudden death thing.

January 16, 2015

The view from Cypress
I don't know how it happened but I ended up organising my own birthday party. Turns out I'm not that good at it. I started making phone calls on Wednesday. Okay, I didn't really make phone calls. I just sent out a mass text message to a dozen or so people.
Looking around the house it was obvious that someone hasn't been doing the housework. Since Chef Boy R Lisa has been at work, I guess that would be me. I grab a cup of drippy Joe. Then wilfully ignoring the rubble I was walking through, I went to the office to write yesterday's blog.

The lovely Lisa was off to Cypress to ski. I helped her set up the Go Pro camera on her helmet.

I went back to writing while she packed a cooler bag with drinks and lunch.
Ski Bunny lunch.

I walked her out to the car and kissed her goodbye. She's skiing by herself and if she hits a tree I don't want to be the guy saying " I never kissed her goodbye" besides she's quite kissable even without the sudden death thing.

I finished up my blog and when I went to put the pictures in I realized that the lovely Lisa ski bunny had taken the camera with her. I used that as an excuse not to take pictures today. That and I was crazy busy.
I changed into my workout gear and I swear I was going to work out. I skipped yesterday's workout to spend the day with the lovely Lisa so I was feeling guilty. I needed the Green room for tonight's party and the Grandkids had turned it into a disaster zone. Toys, clothes, crayons and some unidentifiable white powder all over the Green Room. It took me a couple of hours to put the room together. I set up my amps and a couple of guitars. I recently started playing an electric guitar. I borrowed it from my Bro Steve a couple of years ago and started playing it two weeks ago. I have an old Garnet Gnome tube amp and this guitar sounds great through it. Especially when Steve is playing it.
I will describe the pulled pork process because the lovely Lisa had the camera. I'm not blaming the lovely Lisa for it. I have another digital camera, I have a cell phone and a tablet both with camera's. I also have a very short attention span! I pulled out the pressure cooker and layered carrots, onion, celery and garlic cloves in the bottom of the pot. I rubbed a full pork loin, about five pounds with salt, pepper, montreal chicken spice, garlic powder, paprika and Chili powder. I put the pork in the pot, a tight fit, and added one litre of passion fruit juice and added water until it covered the pork. Crank up the heat when the pressure cooker whistles turn it to low and forget about it.
I spent the rest of the day cleaning the rest of the house and setting up for tonight's festivities. The lovely Lisa wanted to do a pork shoulder roast to go with the pulled pork because she can't shut off her inner caterer. She also has Scullery Squatch to use as she sees fit.
Once the house was clean I prepped the pork roast. I rubbed it with three kinds of salt, scored the skin and cranked the oven to 450 degrees. If you want good crackling, rub your meat with salt. When the oven was ready I put in the meat and turned it down to 325 degrees. It's a big piece of meat but I had three hours to cook it. Not quite long enough.
People started arriving. Christian arrived with his fabulous Guacamole and corn tortillas for the pulled pork. Black beans and rice and a pasta salad rounded out the menu. That was after the appetisers, fruit plate and Annie's cream cheese and home made Jalapeno jelly.

The pulled pork was ready. Christian was in the kitchen heating up tortillas and the feeding frenzy was on.

We get the kids fed first then it's Aussie rules dinner. As always there was so much food and it was amazing.

The roast pork still wasn't ready but we didn't really need it. After dinner and a partial cleanup half the gang went down stairs with me to make music and the other half stayed with the lovely Lisa and played cards.

We had four guitars and a harmonica player. Bill Taylor and Bro Steve are two of the best guitar players I know and Lea is a talented songwriter/performer with a contagious energy. Craig can wail on his harps and I know a lot of good R&B songs he can let loose on.

Steve and Bill can play anything. We had been at it for about an hour when the lovely Lisa called us upstairs for birthday cake.
Zodiac twins
There were five Rat dogs in attendance and they all joined in when Craig played Happy Birthday on his harmonica.

I'm not saying it was totally bad, but next year I requested they Mime it!
Jen, Christian and the Grandkids headed for home. Christo had milked his cake as long as he could. I said to him " You know what's at the end of that cake don't you? Bed" I looked over he was licking the finish off his fork. Jen finally shoved the last of it into him and they were gone. Willie left shortly thereafter.
We went back to our music after cake and another card game was started. The music came to an end around 11:00. Lea and Craig left bill and Bro Steve where talking downstairs and I joined the last game of cards. It was near 1:00 when every one but Annie, who was staying over, had left. The three of us finished cleaning up Annie and the lovely Lisa went off to bed. We never did get around to the roast pork! I turned off the lights grabbed the Rat dogs and hit the sack.

That's all I've got
Till Next time
Peace out Y'all
