The Lions from Cypress Bowl |
Today was a day that could only happen in Vancouver. The fog lifted and glorious sunshine beamed down from above. That's not the part that could only happen in Vancouver. The day didn't start off that well. The weather was nice but I was still sound asleep when Papa Squatch Dayscare started. Fortunately Grandma Lisa was on the job. If her job was coming down the hall and shaking me awake. Like anyone could sleep through Bella and Christo's arrival. By the time I grabbed a cup of drippy Joe, Nutmeg was in her glory. She was sitting on the couch between Grandma Lisa and Bella who were taking turns on who was going to get to pet her.
Ten minutes before school started I was still in my pajamas. I put on a pair of shoes with no socks and a long coat. Christo pulled on his boots and coat and we headed across the street to take Bella to school. For the third time in a row we missed the light. For the third time in a row the bell rang while we were standing at the light. As we were getting close to the door Bella turned to me and asked if I was coming in for family reading time. I was wearing a coat, pajama bottoms and no socks! If I showed up in a grade one class like that, the teacher is likely to call the cops! Christo and I walked back to the house. We had fifteen minutes before I was taking him to preschool. He sat and played with the magnets on the fridge until it was time for us to go.
After I dropped Christo at preschool, I came home and started working on my blog. The lovely Lisa made phone call after phone call, when she wasn't receiving phone call after phone call. Bro Steve and the lovely Lisa we're planning on going skiing today up at Cypress mountain. Bro Steve however is sick as the proverbial dog. The lovely Lisa was on, off, on, off, I'm skiing, I'm not skiing, I'm going alone, I don't want to go alone! Then in a fabulous and unexpected twist of fate, Christian was done for the day after only two hours. Papa Squatch Dayscare was now officially closed for the weekend!
I helped the lovely Lisa get her ski gear out of the attic. Now she was committed to going. I got her a Go Pro camera for her helmut last year but it wasn't charged. Next time. I'm always nervous when she skies by herself. She likes to ski through the trees.

I decided I was going to play golf at Rupert Park with the Rat dogs. I put together some tuna salad lettuce wraps for lunch, harnessed the Rat dogs and drove into Vancouver in bright sunshine.
On the way to Cypress Mountain |
I tucked my pant leg into my socks and started on the ninth hole. Rupert Park is a pitch n putt.
Nothing but blue skies over me. |
When I play alone I play one, two, three. That's a maximum of three tee shots to get on the green. The perfect game would be eighteen tee shots. Between the tenth and the eleventh hole is Grateful Bridge.
Thank you for another day. |
We installed a plaque there as a memorial to our friend Eric Bardal. He was a well known political cartoonist in B.C. and in light of the horrific events in France I couldn't help but wonder what he would have drawn.
I only made one one, three twos and five threes. My only one of the day was after Grateful Bridge on eleven.
Thanks Eric |
I birdied it too. Maybe a little help from my friend. I only played nine holes. That's all the Rat dogs can do. As a matter of fact as I was teeing off on number seventeen, I couldn't find Nutmeg for a few seconds. Just long enough to make me think something had eaten her! She would make some critter a nice little Scooby snack! Nutmeg was fine, she just had enough golf. Like all Princesses she thinks her will is my command.
Princess Nutmeg |
They really enjoy it out on the course and run all over the place never letting me get out of their sight. Until Nutmeg decides she has had enough . I spent the last two holes constantly calling for her to come. There weren't many people on the course so I wasn't annoying anyone else. It was sure annoying me. If you think about it I played nine holes.
At Rupert that's only about 1000 yards.
It probably seems a lot further when your legs are only four inches long! The Rat dogs were asleep before I cleared the parking lot .
There were some grey clouds moving in but it was still a really nice day. As I was driving home I had a clear view of the North Shore mountains.
Not the North Shore mountains, Lisa took this from Cypress |
I wondered how the skiing was for the lovely Lisa, Ski Bunny.
You can't see Cypress Mountain from this part of the highway but you can see Grouse Mountain and it looked like they finally had some snow. Today was the first time the lovely Lisa, ski bunny has been up this season.

It was an Olympic Venue |
I wish I could be there with her. I have been on skis three times in my life. Twice in Collingwood, Ontario and once at Whistler. Collingwood does not prepare you for Whistler. Collingwood is a hill, Whistler is a mountain and I am an idiot. What was I thinking? I was thinking that I was going to have sex with the girl who invited me skiing. I, of course, told her I skied. I, of course, lied. Lust has no conscience! Leaving the Chalet decked out in rental skis about the size of toboggans, I fell seven hundred times between there and the lift. My date was not impressed. She helped me to get on the lift. It just kept going up.

Strangely my courage kept going down. I told her that this was way more than I was expecting. We got off mid mountain, thank God. She told me that this was the easiest run on the mountain. Meet you at the bottom she called cheerfully as she slid off down the sphincter clenching slope. I then proceeded to fall down the mountain. At the bottom, battered and bruised I sent her off to ski with some people she knew, took back the rentals and went straight to Apres ski. By the time she joined me I was hammered, I don't recall how the sex thing worked out. That was twenty years ago.
The lovely Lisa stopped to see our friend Michele on the way home as she was already on the North Shore. When she got home
we decided to go to the rivers reach for dinner with Gord and Penny.
Penny and Gord |
It has to be the busiest pub in New Westminster.
Lettuce wrap |
The lovely Lisa and I shared chicken wings, calamari and lettuce wraps.

We spent three hours there catching up on the week's events and eating. Once at home we did a family feud session and had an early night. We were in bed by 11:00.
That's all I've got
Till next time
Peace out y'all
