Who's a Fat Bastard - Thirteen years ago today

September 11, 2014

Thirteen years ago today we sat watching in horror at the loss of 3000 lives, and the destruction of the twin towers. I remember it like it was yesterday. We were dragged from our beds by the ringing telephone. "Turn on the TV" Steve said when we answered. We watched as the second tower was hit. We watched as people jumped from the building rather than be consumed by flame. We watched as the towers came down on the first responders, the firemen and the police. We watched as they danced in the streets in Arab countries. Celebrating the blow struck against the Great Satan. We watched and we wept. We phoned Lisa's dad, who was in New York once a week fifty times, and Uncle Charlie who worked right across the river in Jersey and saw the second plane hit from his office window. It's the day the world changed forever. You could no longer cross the border with your student card and a note from your mother. You now had to take off your shoes and dump your shampoo before you could get on a plane. For our family, it was the day that pushed Momma Lee into a scary place. She was born and raised in Kearney NJ. it's on the river right across from Manhattan. She has a lot of family and friends in the area and when she saw what had happened she lost it. She spent several months in hospital and has struggled ever since.

I only mention this because Lisa and I took Momma Lee to a doctors appointment today. This day has always been hard on her. I thought her appointment was at 11:30 so I was going to let Lisa sleep in. I need one more day of toe rest before I can workout. I have diabetes and am very diligent about looking after my feet. One good infection and I won't be able to wear flip flops!
So, it's 10 am and I hear Lisa on the move in the bedroom.
" Good morning Sweetheart, I made you a coffee" I said extending the steaming cup of Java towards my love.
" Why didn't you wake me up? Mom's appointment is at 11!"
"But, But, But, But" I sputtered like a lawn sprinkler on stun. She stormed down the hallway removing her pyjamas as she went. Normally I like that part, not this morning. At the top of the list of words not to say to an angry women is "Relax" it doesn't make them relax. " My Mom is sitting there waiting. I was supposed to be there ten minutes ago!" She's so cute when she's mad. "I'll drive, they are always running late and we'll be twenty minutes early anyway." I said. And we were. The doctor is quite pleased with Momma Lee's condition and everything is staying the same.
After we took Momma Lee home we were going to play golf at Rupert Park. On the way we had to pick up Otto, Lisa's car from the garage. We fiddled around long enough getting ready to play that we had to get the car first or the garage would be closed. So I had lunch. Oyster Po'Boy lettuce wraps.

I parked near the garage and we took Otto to Rupert Park. He's a four cylinder diesel and runs on fumes.
Lisa started of hot winning the first three holes.
I came back with a vengeance taking a 5- 3 skin lead.
Lisa clawed back like an animal taking a 6 - 5 lead at the turn.
I went nuts with two birdies in the next four holes to go up 14 - 7 and I was grateful for the amazing day.

It didn't last. Lisa won the last four holes and the game ended
14 - 12. I collected my winners kiss and went to pick up my truck.
Happy Golfers

Lisa got home before me and didn't have her keys. I didn't realise my house keys were in Lisa's car. So I boosted her through the window. Then I found my keys. The whole time the dogs were losing it.
We packed up the dogs and took them to Mundy park. It was a little dog rodeo!  There were eight or nine Ratdogs all having a blast.

It was pushing 8 when we detoured from our Tentatsu dinner plans to watch the sunset from Burnaby Mountain.
Sunset from Burnaby Mountain
As always our dinner at Tentatsu was excellent. Lisa had a Bento Box and I had a chicken teriyaki dinner.
We meandered home and released the hounds. Lisa was ready for bed about 11pm. I tucked her in and here I am. Writing about every day things and looking for the laughs. Trying to see through the hate and harm that surrounds us to find the sunshine in our lives.

That's all I got.
Till next time.
Peace Out Y'all
