It was pretty quiet for that time of day. Austin Ave is a main road these days connecting Coquitlam Center to Loughheed Mall. When we bought our house there was nothing at the end of the road but Riverview Hospital. I guess this time of year a lot of people take long weekends and holidays. For me, life is a holiday! Even better when there is less traffic. I was sitting on the deck marveling at the progress my tomatoes were making.

My morning meditation was shattered by the lovely Lisa calling me from Stupor Store. She was giddy with excitement, Cherries were on sale for $1.98 lb and she had bought a bunch of them. She had a long day in front of her and just wanted to say good morning. That was nice, or was it. She planted the cherry seed in my brain. Knowing it would grow into a tree of cherry obsession! I wouldn't buy cherries two days ago because they wanted $7.99 lb for them. She had a few things going for her first I'm Scottish $1.98! How could any self respecting son of Alba not get in on a deal like that. Second, I love to see my wife smile. Third and most importantly I really like cherries.
It was one of those Wet Coast days that we have in order to keep people from moving here. It was not hot nor was it cold it was damp. Every time the sun peaked through you could feel the warmth only to have it snatched away by the next wave of low grey clouds. It never did rain. Just wet air! I was on the move!
Quest for Cherries! A noble quest indeed. I would brave the traffic one hundred times in order to lay Discount Cherries at the lovely Lisa's feet. The parking lot at the Stupor Store was packed. I drove straight to the best parking spot and did the lovely Lisa's parking prayer. Sister Mary full of grace, Help me find a parking space. It works all the time for the lovely Lisa! I drove around for 5 minutes then parked so far away from the doors I should have called a cab. I was just glad not to have burst into flames!
I didn't need a cart I had a basket and a will to eat cherries. I sauntered into the store and walked right past the cherries. I didn't see them because there was a gaggle of cherry eating bastards blocking out the sun. I move pretty good for a big man and I slip-siddled my way past a couple of doddlers and grabbed the last three bags of BC Cherries. 7 lbs.
10 lbs of Cherries |
I stopped at the bank and then took some Cherries to Mama Lee. She just had her hair done and it looked really good. That and she also really likes cherries. While I was there I got a text from Chef Boy R Lisa. Get Cherries!! I used the ones I got this morning for work. I couldn't very well take back the cherries I gave Mama Lee. Quest for Cherries continues. I went down to the Coquitlam Center Stupor Store for more cherries. I was devastated! The cherry special ended at noon! It was 12:07 and they were now $4.99!!! NOOOOOOOOO! I didn't buy them, Stupor Store Bastards! As I was driving by Cheap Thrills I thought I would duck in for some Avacados when what did I see but Cherries $2.97 lb. The lovely Lisa will be so happy....if I don't eat them all before she gets home!
Then exhausted from my Quest I turned on the Ticats Football game and promptly had a nap. No wonder I woke up at half time when Michele got home and the score was 5 - 4! I nodded back off and when I woke up the Ticats had won easily. Got out of bed and had a nice Squatch Salad for dinner and watched the BlueJays blow a 7 - 4 lead and lose 8 - 7.
