The cabin in the woods |
You can always count on the Island weather to keep things interesting. All day long today the sun was shining and the preparations for Saturdays big event were well underway. We had gotten in at after 11:00 last night and we were looking forward to the day. We were right to do so. It was as nice a morning as you have ever seen. Lisa whipped up a great breakfast of beef hash, scrambled eggs and toast. All from stuff we brought up with us. Chef boy R Lisa and her crew give scraps to one of the crew on her show for his chickens and in return he gives her the most amazing jumbo eggs. A dozen of them scrambled fed 10 people with leftovers. Bright orange yolks worthy of toast dipping scrambled into obscurity. We sat in the sunshine after breakfast drinking several cups of Jo and reviewing the days possible options

We were definitely needing to go into town to do some food shopping. We brought a ham amongst other things but the caterer in the lovely Lisa wasn't going to be content with that. $150 later we have enough food to feed everyone. We didn't have to wait long for Bro Steve to arrive. He caught a ride to Campbell River with a friend and was waiting when we got there from the Stupor Store. It is amazing how much traffic there is in that little town.
Bro Steve |
Once we collected Bro Steve we were headed back up the hill. We had no problem finding it in the daylight. It's only about 15 minutes to the Hillbilly Acres from town. It seemed to take a lot longer to get there because the lovely Lisa and I were having a disagreement and I was sulking. There are going to be 40 or 50 people here and all are bringing food. We don't have to feed all of them. Chef Boy R Lisa's inner caterer was working overtime! I gotta learn to just shut up!

Once we were back and getting Bro Steve settled in it was time for a dip in the pond. You have never heard such negativity "You're going to hurt yourself" "Don't do it, you'll die!" "Fear not puny humans, I am Squatch and I am undeadable!" The brave Squidly was in right behind me.
The water was perfect, the bottom was pondy. a little scummy on the bottom but Daryl had dredged it in the last few weeks and it was plenty deep. Getting out was a little trecherous but I made it. The great Squidded one and I splashed around for 30 minutes or so. The lovely Lisa and CT were straight up spectators. I was surprised Bro Steve didn't participate. He's usually right into it.
We dried out and waited for dinner. People were starting to arrive and the BBQ was fired up with a monstrous selection of tube steaks. Hotdogs, smokies and 3 kinds of sausages that the lovely Lisa was tending on the grill. Salads, fruit and junk food was everywhere. More and more people where arriving. I played a game of Muckers with Squidly. That's a ring toss game using heavy rubber rings. He beat me twice. Ungrateful little prick!
While one of the guests was parking there trailer they found a wasps nest wrapped around the outdoor plugin. That lead to an investigation that turned up 4 wasp nests around the house. 3 of them on the roof. Trevor the Devlin's oldest son played exterminator in true Hillbilly fashion.
The rest of the night was sitting around the campfire and catching up with people. Most of these people we only see once a year. Stu was working last night so we didn't see him last night. I did have a long Skype talk with his sister Janet. Everyone is concerned about Stu. He's never been an open book and he's holding it all in. Then we sat around the campfire playing the one guitar,
Squidly was bragging about playing Beer Pong in college in St Louis. He wasn't however playing with Canadian Beer. He got hammered. Literally! That's why the call them Yanks!
About midnight we headed to bed. Except Squidly who is still in bed. Ha Ha rookie!
Here's some pics of some of the folks.
