Who's a Fat Bastard - I can't wait for the sequel!

November 14, 2014
I think the cold is causing me to Hibernate!
It was a first for me. I slept through the alarm. It was an issue because I had Papa Squatch Dayscare to do today. I sat up in bed thinking I had woken up before the alarm, which was set for 7:45. Imagine my surprise and sense of panic when I saw it was 8:37. Pulling my pants on, as I ran down the hallway I was formulating excuses for my daughter as to why I was M I A. There were two messages on the machine. One from Jen telling me she pounded on the door and couldn't wake us so she left the kids with Tamara. The second message was from Tamara telling me she had the kids.
I yelled down stairs for the kids as I was putting on my socks.
"Time for school, Bella." By the time I got Bella and Christo ready to go out the door we had three minutes till the bell rang. On the way over Bella asked me if I was coming to family reading day.
Jen had told me about it last night but it had totally slipped my mind. "Sure thing Sweetie" I said. "That sounds like fun." The bell went just as we entered the schoolyard. All the kids in the lower grades line up in their classes. When the bell rings  their teacher brings them in. The parents/me got in line with the kids and dutifully trudged in when the teacher called on us. I have never attended family reading day before. I thought the kids would be reading and we would be encouraging them. That was not the case. The deal is the parent/me, read to the kids. That doesn't seem right. I already know how to read. A six year old reading The Cat In The Hat out loud is much more impressive than a fifty-eight year old man reading Curious George. Which is what I did. Bella picked out the longest book in the classroom. Curious George and the baby bunny. It seemed longer than War and Peace!
Everything in a grade one class is miniature. Except me. While most of the adults managed to sit on the tiny little chairs with their kids. I sat on a table and read to Bella and Christo. It just wasn't right. I hadn't even had a cup of Joe yet! Curious George isn't really curious, just stupid! Though not as stupid as the man in the yellow hat, who goes out and leaves a monkey running around his apartment with the windows open and no diaper!! After a couple of close calls involving fishing and kite flying, George was rescued by the man in the yellow hat. I can't wait for the sequel!
Christo goes to preschool for 9:30. It's now 9:20 and we were just leaving Bella's class room. "I gotta go to school Papa." Christo said like I was unaware of his schedule. "Well, go get in the car."I said. Backpack on and booster seat in hand, Christo led Elvis and Nutmeg out the back door. Watch, wallet, house keys, car keys, sunglasses, glasses and phone. Oh yeah, and a Go Cup full of Joe, and I was ready to go! Christo, Elvis and Nutmeg were waiting at the gate, he can't reach the latch. "C'mon Papa, I gotta go to school!"

I dropped him off at preschool and took the dogs to the park for a walk. He only goes till noon. I puttered around the house while Lisa put together a pulled pork for tonights card game.

The phone rang and it was our friend Alida who was in the neighbourhood and ended up staying over the night. That seemed weird to me since she lives on Vancouver Island. Normally you would expect a call to let you know a day before that a visit was imminent, nothing normal about Alida! Lisa was picking up Momma Lee at 12:15 for an appointment in Kitsilano at 2:00.
About 11:45 I went and picked Christo up and took him with me while I shopped at Cheap Thrills. Once we were home, I made his lunch for him. Grilled cheese, apple slices, popcorn noodles and chocolate milk. We had about an hour before it was time to pick up Bella. Christo played down in the Green Room until I called him to walk across the street and meet Bella. Fifty meters away the light turned red there was no traffic so I took Christo's hand and crossed the street in the middle of the block. You would have thought I killed someone! "You're supposed to cross with the light Papa!" he said knowingly. "I know Christo, Papa's are allowed to do this" I said. The bell rang before we made it. They only let the kids out when an authorised adult is there to pick them up. Bella's class was third in line to be sprung.
One dog, two dog, red dog, blue dog. Kids are the same. Once you have one, two is better. Then they can amuse/torture each other without your help. I started making the cole slaw and the guacamole for the pulled pork. Matty got home with his Mom Tamara, twenty minutes later and I fed them a pudding cup and a glass of juice as a snack. Then I chased them down stairs with the broom.
Christian and Adam came to pick up the kids at around 4:00. They are laying stone out in West Vancouver and were very happy it was Friday. That's a tough Gig. Especially when it's cold. The cement won't set and when it does, it has no strength. So they had spent the entire day packing 60 pound bags of cement and 1600 pounds of stone uphill to the wall site. It makes me tired just writing about it!
When they were gone I pulled the pork out of the oven. It had been in there for five hours at 300 degrees.
Perfect Pork
It was perfect. I bowled the pork for pulling and strained all the shrapnel out of the juice. Lisa used passion fruit juice as the liquid in the pork. I put the strained juice on the stove and started reducing it. Yay, Lisa is home.
Lisa is a caterer. She can't just give our guests a pulled pork sandwich. She made a dozen baked potatoes, a giant bowl of Mac and Cheese and two dozen buns for the six people having dinner.
I know, I'm always talking up Chef Boy R Lisa's cooking but only because it's true. We all ate way too much! I even had two corn tortillas. Muey Bueno!!
MMMMM Tortillas
After dinner we set in for some serious Screw Your Neighbour. I sucked! To make it worse, Barry "Mole Boy" Ho won two of the four games. When added to the beating the Canucks took, it was a most sad evening. Fortunately I got over it pretty quick. Good food, good friends and good fun. Does it get any better on a Friday night?
Lots of laughs at this card table!
My Bar hopping days are well behind me. Lisa and I much prefer an environment conducive to conversation not screamversation. We wrapped it up about 11:30 and Lisa started cleaning up. I slipped off and started writing today's blog. As usual, when we have company, I finished it Saturday morning.

That's all I got
Till next time
Peace out Y'all
