Who's a Fat Bastard - Carpooling Their Prayers

November 19 2014

Como Lake
As I sit down to write this blog, the Kennedy family just won $20,000 on Family Feud. Well , not right then because it was taped who knows when, then pvr'd by me about a month ago. So for the sake of the truth, I don't really know when the Kennedys won the $20,000. Needless to say, that's not how my day started. I never won nothin!
It was after 3 a.m. when I got to bed last night. I usually stay awake until the lovely Lisa gets out of bed to go to work. She will have put in fifty hours in three days. The good news is, this is her last day of work for ten days.
It was just after 9:00 when I got out of bed. I didn't feel like I'd had a good night's sleep. I felt sluggish and dopey and possibly grumpy and maybe one other Dwarf.  I put the kettle on to make a cup of Joe and hopped into the shower. I needed something to wake me up. I was revitalized after I danced with the Waterpik. Between the Old Spice body wash and Crest complete toothpaste I was smelling good and squeaky clean. With a fresh cup of Joe in hand I made my way to the office to write yesterday's blog. I don't know what happened to the rest of the morning. It took me over two hours to do yesterday's blog.
Here it was noon and I hadn't even started my chores yet. I put together the laundry, took it downstairs and got the first load started.

I seriously considered doing a workout but I had things to do today. One of those things was to make myself something to eat.

The lovely Lisa had brought home some beautiful fish last night, cod I think, a little malt vinegar and some homemade tartar sauce and I was cooking, alright microwaving..... just the fish! I had the fish with an avocado , a tomato and an apple. The ambrosia apples are around right now.  They are my favorite apples.
Ambrosia apples...yummy
By the time I finished breakfast, did the dishes and flipped  the laundry, it was 2:30. Oh yeah, I practiced the lap steel for about an hour too. I'm almost at the point where I can play it and sing at the same time. I'm just starting to automatically go to the proper chords. Once I begin to feel where the notes are, then I'll be able to concentrate on the singing part. It took me a year to be able to play the guitar and sing along with my self. There are a number of people out there who believe that I still can't! As a singer I have often been complimented on my harmonica playing.
I got Elvis and Nutmeg ready to go out. The lovely Lisa said I should put their jackets on them. I guess she doesn't think I look stupid enough walking two five pound dogs. Maybe a tutu for Nutmeg and a top hat and tails for Elvis! While we're at it maybe you could keep my penis in a pickle jar and let me play with it on weekends!  Then on the way home I would have no choice but to step in front of a speeding bus. Besides they are both already wearing fur coats!

Our first stop was Home Depot. Did you know there are at least a dozen different types of manure/compost that you can buy at Home Depot? With the help of the Dreadlocked Garden Center Hippy Chick, she said things like  " Use the steer manure, it will make your banana tree smile" and "Don't wrap your banana tree too tight, you could damage it's chi" I bought two bags of mulch, a bag of steer manure and some burlap to wrap my banana tree.
Banana Tree Survival Kit.
And possibly some of whatever she was on! I'm going to top dress the banana plants with the manure and some of the compost that we have been making, then bury it under the mulch. That way it keeps the roots from freezing and provide nutrition for the spring.

Next stop was Vancity to do some banking for Mama Lee. I like Vancity. They have gone out of their way to help us with Mama Lee's affairs.
I was going in a big circle, from the top of Blue Mountain down to United Boulevard over to Brunette and then back up to Austin Avenue to the Bank of Commerce where I had some banking to do of my own.
I had planned to visit Mama Lee on my way to Como Lake Park but it was getting very close to 3 o'clock. Mama Lee and her friends pray for world peace everyday at 3 o'clock for about fifteen minutes. Kind of like carpooling their prayers.  Hey, it can't hurt. Lord knows this world could sure use some help getting along with each other.

Instead I took the dogs to Como Lake first.

It was a beautiful fall day at the lake. The temperature had warmed up nicely, it was in the high single digits.

Elvis and Nutmeg were all over the place. They haven't been here for a couple of weeks so they were very excited. It was like a whole new world to pee on. They really maintain this park very well. They had raked up all of the fallen leaves and they now stretched snakelike along the west side of the lake.

Perfect for two little rat dogs to jump in.

The lake seldom freezes so the Ducks stay all year long.

The good news is the geese leave. We went twice around the lake, that's two kilometres if you're keeping score.
Then we went across the street for a visit with Mama Lee. Elvis and Nutmeg made the rounds. Pretending to say hello to everyone but really just looking for scraps. I found mama Lee on the floor in her room. She wasn't hurt. She said that she got on the floor deliberately to look through a drawer. I am, to say the least, skeptical. Not to mention, there's no way she can get herself up off the floor. I am able to lift her up into her wheelchair using my Super Squatch strength but it takes two Care Aides to do it. There are not always two Care Aides immediately available. I explained to Mama Lee that they have their hands full with people who fall accidentally. She promised me she would not deliberately sit on the floor anymore. I am to say the least, still skeptical.
Lisa got home right about Five o'clock. I had bought a couple more of those nice strip loins and was prepared to BBQ a steak dinner for us. I had those little multicolored nugget potatoes for the lovely Lisa, broccoli and a nice Squatch salad. The lovely lisa suggested that we go to Tentatsu on Hastings for sushi. It didn't take much persuasion for me to agree. I've been craving sushi for a couple of weeks now.
It was however a great sacrifice! I gave up both the Raptors game and the Canucks game. Even though the lovely Lisa worked a paltry 14 hours today, she knew that if she sat on the couch she would be asleep in minutes. Lisa got changed to go out as I flipped frantically back and forth between the Raptors and the Canucks games trying to keep up on both. 2 - 0 for the Canucks, but the Raptors were down six points in the third quarter. And then we were gone! The sounds of squeaking sneakers and blades on ice were replaced by The Tragically Hip at the 100th meridian.
Dinner at Tentatsu was as always excellent.
Miso Happy
We ordered the chicken teriyaki dinner, a California roll and a Samba roll.

Plenty of food to share and more food than we can eat. That's okay, we always take the extra sushi back to Mama Lee as a snack.

I really like this place. The lovely Lisa and I were stuffed with high quality sushi. With the tip, less than $25. Warms the cockles of my cheap Scottish heart.
Right beside Tentatsu is a small Chinese Grocer. We often buy produce and sometimes BBQ pork from them. Tonight we bought some Ambrosia apples at one quarter of the price of anywhere else. They also have a full butcher shop. I should have taken pictures because no one will believe what we saw.  Pig faces. The one I recall was 81 cents. Nose and all. If that's not enough pig face for you. You can by a whole head for Five bucks.
We made a Beeline for home, the lovely Lisa was now on auto pilot. "I'm starting to feel tired now." she said stifling a yawn. "I can drive you know" I offered. " No, No I'm fine." as we pull onto the highway. "Hey" I said " Let's play a game I know" "Sure, what is it" she asked "It works like this. I watch you intently as you're driving down the highway with our lives in your hands. If you nod or close your eyes I yell, Wake up!" and pinch you on the inside of your thigh. Really hard! The lovely Lisa was not interested in playing.
At home the lovely Lisa was in her pajamas before I had my coat off. She struggled through two episodes of Family Feud before she took herself off to bed. I watched the sports highlights then retired to the office to finish writing this blog.

That's all I got
Till next time
Peace out Y'all
