Return of the Fat Bastard - Take me now Jesus!

June 17th 2016

I was asleep before my head hit the pillow. I was up till 2 am writing and slept like a baby once I was in bed. Okay a large noisy, funky smelling baby but...still a baby. I rolled out of bed the back of nine to find the coffee cooking and Karen, Allie and the baby up. Karen broke her ankle in a spectacular fall on a rock strewn beach. Ouch!
Karen and Allie...probably playing Wheel of Fortune
What a cutie. Abigail
The lovely Lisa, Stu and I went shopping in town at the Stupor Store. Fruit, veggies and a ham for dinner. This of course all happened about noon. We spent the entire morning playing with the baby when it was announced that we were going on a short hike to Elk Falls and the new suspension bridge. After ignoring the food we bought at the store. we noshed on food we brought up in the cooler. About 1:30 we went on our hike to Elk Falls.
Elk Falls Provincial Park is one my favorite places to be. It had been totally logged in the 1900s  then in 1938 a fire destroyed the town and thousands of acres of forest. The most striking thing about the place is that the trees all grew back....who Knew!
It's home to some of the largest trees on Vancouver Island. There is also Moose Falls and Deer Falls. It's a hell of a long way down to the falls. No problem! Strangely it's a hell of a long way back up from the falls. My chest felt fine. My lungs were definitely fully expanded. The problem was my legs most notably my knees. I could feel it on the way down but on the way up my Arthritic knees were screaming! I wasn't screaming just whining. Take me Jesus, take me now! Allie, who was packing Abigail in a Bjorn, and I were ready to quit when Stu started telling us about how is 85 year old Mom walked the trail last year. Left, right , left, right .When we got up from Elk Falls we continued on to Moose Falls a place were we had spent many sunny days swimming and drinking gallons of beer and cases of Schloshedallthetime the year of the beer strike. At the Moose falls trail head I called it quits. If I went down to the falls I would have to walk back up. My knees would not like that. Plus Allie was on my side she was packing a 20 lb baby on her chest! I'll let the pictures tell the story.
87 stairs to the suspension bridge after 1.2 K down hill on the trail
It's called a suspension bridge because when you look down your sphincter snaps shut
Ratdogs don't like steel grates

A moment suspended in time?

Some thing started squeeking at me...Bats?

Big Tree ....Little lady

Elk Falls
Yes Squatchy, I love you this much
We were there until 4:45. I was bagged by the time we got back to the car. I kept stopping to take pictures and dream about the Aleve waiting at home.
The lovely Lisa had thrown the Ham into the oven before we left for our hike so it was ready when we got back to Karen and Stu's. Potatoes on the stove, corn shucked and ready to go and I threw together a Squatch Salad. We had a great meal and after dinner we went to visit an old friend Angie Swim.
With Angie and The lovely Lisa.
I've known Angie since she was 16 years old trying to sneak into the bar. Recently married she's moving to Marin County near San Francisco with her new husband. We are looking forward to visiting her in the near future. I have said this before and I will say it again. Don't invite us to visit if you don't mean it. We will show up. Especially if you live somewhere nice! We spent an hour or so with Angie then back to Stu and Karen's where we watched The Martian. It was good. I like Matt Damon and he was excellent. After the movie Karen and the lovely Lisa went to bed and Stu and I stayed up and watched the second half of Mad Max. It was OK. great action scenes but lamo story.
A full day and now my knees are throbbing a day later. Oh well, another Aleve and life goes on.

That's all I've got
Till next time
Peace Out Y'all
