Return of the Fat Bastard - "Readers Digest"

November 28th 2016

Candy Store Indian

I'm going to try to do this post "Readers Digest". I haven't stopped since we got back from Vegas. Dr Dan was in town from Prince George with his daughter Julia. I was still on Vegas time and went to bed at about 3 am so It was noon and I was still on my first cup of Jo. We were meeting Dr Dan, Julia Bro Steve and our friend Paul at Tentatsu Too for dinner. When I finally got myself motivated I worked on the song I wrote while we were in Las Vegas. It's coming along. It was one of those things. I had been thinking about writing a Christmas song. It was our last night in Vegas and as is our tradition the lovely Lisa and I stayed up as late as we could. When we were younger we would stay up all night and sleep on the plane. We made it until 3 am or so. At 6:30 I sat bolt upright in bed with the story I wanted to tell complete in my head. I went down to the Dunkin Donut in the Freemont Hotel because it's well lit and they have tables to sit at. Thirty minutes later I had a first draft. Just the story line. Saturday came the music. I played it tonight at the Heritage Grill and it was very well received. The Grandkids like it so I know it's good.
At Tentatsu
We met at Tentatsu in staggered shifts. The lovely Lisa was hanging with Dr Dan and Julia and I was going to go to a friends 60th Birthday party. So we had multiple vehicles. Bro Steve and Paul were there and seated when I got there. The the lovely Lisa went to pick up Dr Dan and Julia from the skytrain. At that point I lost interest and we started ordering food. The food at Tentatsu Too is every bit as good as the original. We said our goodbyes and at about 8:30 I was in the backroom of the Heritage Grill in New Westminster celebrating the Birthday of not one but two of my talented musical friends. Linda O'Connel and Gary Wong.
Maxine, Daryl, Linda and Sue
It was a blast. Tons of musicians were there and the music never stopped. The room was filled with positive energy and good vibes. Oh no, there goes my inner Hippie shooting off his mouth again. Non the less I feel part of this community bound together by our love of music. It was a most excellent party. I was gone by Midnight but I understand several people ended up at the Fireball Lounge where the have a 10 piece Latin band on Saturday nights.
Sunday was as always Football. The Seahawks  looked more like the Seagulls. Then it was time for the Grey Cup. We have had the same poker game going on for now 47 years. Not me, I've just been in for 15 years or so.
Rick and Mike
Ricky and Ralph are founding members starting the game as 18 year olds. The players have changed over the years. Some have died, some have moved away. Good guys. I broke even on the poker and the pool. But lost a fiver to Ralph...Bastard!
The lovely Lisa was already in bed when I got home. She has her usual 2 am call time on Mondays. I sat and talked with Dr Dan for a while then he called it a night. That's when I got into the blog full steam. I stayed up until the lovely Lisa left for work then set my alarm for 6:45 to take Dr Dan and Julia to the Airport for the flight back to Prince George. By the time I got back from the airport I was bagged. It was 9 am when I lay down just to rest my eyes and 1:15 when I opened them again. And only because the phone rang!
I was going to go to Christo's Certificate Ceremony at 2 pm. I did. Over the course of the year every kid gets a certificate. Not for achievements necessarily  just for being alive. I can't get too worked up about it. That being said Christo was deserving of recognition because he's a foot taller than his class mates! His certificate should say remember Papa when your in the NBA!
Christo and his tiny classmates
He's a great kid and he likes school. Then so did Bella in grade one. Now in grade three...not so crazy about the school thing. I took pictures for Jen and Christian came home for five minutes then went back to the school to pick them up. They were here for about an hour and a half  before Christian got here to pick them up. The lovely Lisa came home had a bite to eat and went to bed. I went to the Heritage Grill where I played four original tunes. There you go. Readers Digest.

That's all I've got
Till next time
Peace out Y'all
