Return of the fat bastard - Two Butterfly/fish catching nets and 4 D cell batteries

August 4th 2016

Buntzen Lake
I woke up this morning to a bright sunny day. After a couple of days of cloud and rain it was nice to see the sun. Last night was a beautiful night at Trout Lake. My alarm was set for 6:45 so I could take the compost and garbage out. On the right day. Then I went back to bed and slept till 8:30. I had to take the Ratdogs in for grooming at 9:00. I had a cup and a half of Jo with Michelle with one L while I watered and pruned my tomato Plantation!
I grew these ones from seed
I bought these ones at RONA for .50
I have others but these two are doing the best. We are always about two weeks behind because we are up pretty high. The weather has been ugly too. Not enough sun. But as a wannabe tomato Baron the buck stops here! The sun is here now and that's what counts. I'll serenade them tomorrow after I water them. Perhaps play the Pan Flute? Not.
Today Elvis and Nutmeg go to the groomer. They are getting to the point that every time they go outside they bring half the outside back inside with them. Definitely time for a haircut. $50 bucks a head! I've never had a $50 haircut! I paid $50 for my first car! The groomers are a nice Korean couple who do a great job and Elvis who is usually a grumpy old man just loves the woman groomer. Nutmeg who is usually shy and passive always gives them trouble. I should have taken a before and after shot but I had a frantic start to the day.
Today was going to be the first day of Papa Squatch Day Scare. Jen dropped off the kids at 9:30. She had a production meeting at 10:30. I barely had time to whine about not getting any love from the teamsters about my application. Come on kid throw your old man a bone!!! Lol. "Can we go swimming Papa" they asked already starting to change into their swim suits. " Sorry my little Pirannahs, I just put the chemicals in the pool and it will turn your skin green."  I lied like the thespian I am. I had other plans. They played on the trampoline, swang on the swings and shot hoops all the while staring longingly at the pool. At 11:30, after secretly loading things into the Rav4 we headed out to pick up the Ratdogs. The groomers are 2 doors down from Rotten Ronnies so I took the kids for lunch. I called the groomers and they said the Ratdogs would be done at 12:15. By the time the kids had finished eating we had almost half an hour to kill. So I took them to the new playground at Blue Mountain Park. This playground is so cool it made me want to be a kid again!

It was almost a shame to tear them away but the Ratdogs were waiting.
After I picked up the Ratdogs and $100 lighter, I told the kids we were going to Buntzen Lake. They were crazy happy. We had so many good days there last year when Clarissa was visiting. We stopped by the Loonie is the starting point Store. This one has better stuff than most but not much for a Loonie! Two Butterfly/fish catching nets and 4 D cell batteries for my air pump. $7.50.
Buntzen Lake through the Butterfly/Fish net
Buntzen Lake here we come three Grandkids, two freshly shorn Ratdogs and Papa Squatch, leader of the pack! I like the ride up to Buntzen a little water view, a little mountain view and a little forest view. It's a glacier fed lake so even in the warmest summers, of which this is not one, only the surface water gets warm, four feet under and it is to say the least brisk! We come here because it's off leash. Not that either of the Ratdogs will go near the water. Perhaps they recall last years Ratdog Races.

I brought the old air mattress that had lost it's shape blew it 3/4 of the way up and let the kids play with it. Bella caught a Butterfly with her net but had no luck with the fish. They were too fast for her. Christo and Clarissa got on the raft bound and determined to stay dry. They did pretty well, for a while. But they're kids! One misplaced splash and the war is on.
Dry So Far
Still Dry
Rowing with a Butterfly/Fish net is hard!
But not as hard as catching a fish is!

Elvis and Nutmeg as I said before are not beach dogs. Elvis sits in the shade under my chair and attacks any dog he perceives as having too much fun. It's the doggy equivalent of "Hey you kids get offa my lawn!" If they walk up he's okay but if they run by
Elvis checkin out the talent. You ain't so big you just tall!
He's a grumpy little shit. No one believes he's almost 15 years old. Princess Nutmeg on the other hand doesn't even like to walk on the sand.
Princess Nutmeg "Carry Me!"
It was a great day after a snack of peaches, watermelon and possibly sour chocolate milk, I ventured out into the water myself. It wasn't bad. The air temperature was hot enough that the water was refreshing. I got on the mattress followed by Clarissa and Bella. Christo was last on so I shoved him off first. Besides he's not the swimmer the girls are. Then when we got out to deeper, colder water I dumped the mattress. They are both strong swimmers. Bella swam for shore doing the backstroke at a pretty good clip. Clarissa tried to get back on the raft, I'm tired of typing Mattress, too many letters. Once we were in we were in all the way.

We spent more than three hours at the lake. I have them again tomorrow. They want to go back to the lake. I'm thinking that's a good idea. This time I'll bring the raft and the paddles! They came back to the house and got right back into the water. They splashed around until Christian came to pick them up around 5:30.
The lovely Lisa made a nice curry for dinner. Chicken with Brown Basmati, Peas and Naan. Yum Yum. I watched the Jays game in what was once Tiny TV Town but now it's 48 inches of HD Splendor.  Then I binge watched season 2 of Bosche on Crave TV and wrote this post.

That's all I've got
Till next time
Peace out Y'all
